Byron Ruby

Byron combines the strategic discipline of a management consultant with the advocacy skills of a trial lawyer. In addition to serving as the Firm's chief operational officer, his practice focuses on intellectual property, complex business disputes, anti-SLAPP matters, and appeals.

Before co-founding the Firm, Byron advised C-suite executives of Fortune 500 companies and global AmLaw firms as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, where he developed a data-driven approach to legal strategy, operations, and risk. His background in finance and investing—supported by a Series 65 license—adds further depth in navigating complex business disputes and securities matters. His prior legal work includes positions at DLA Piper, the U.S. Department of Justice, litigation boutiques, and legal nonprofits.

Byron graduated at the top of his class from UC Berkeley with a perfect 4.0 GPA and highest distinction in two simultaneous degrees. Following graduation, he was awarded a John Gardner Fellowship and worked at the U.S. Department of State on international negotiations. He went on to earn a joint J.D.–Master’s from Yale University and Harvard Law School, where he received multiple Dean’s Scholar Awards and graduated with Latin honors.

He clerked for the Honorable John W. Holcomb of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California and externed for the Honorable Jeffrey Meyer of the District of Connecticut.
